1949 – 30 Oct 2009

While John Francis Dwyer retired from active priesthood in 1984 and was liaised, he never drifted far away from his passionate search for the Divine. John died on October 30, aged 60 after losing his battle with cancer. He was ordained on August 31, 1974, in the largest ordination group from St Charles since its foundation in 1942 by Lancelot Goody.

John worked in various pastoral ministries around Perth. For his early education John attended the Jesuit College in Claremont where he first met his life long friend John Harte SJ – then his football coach. He was a student at St Charles in Perth and St Francis Xavier in Adelaide.

John Harte was principal celebrant at a people packed funeral along with twenty priests and both Perthís bishops – Archbishop Barry Hickey and Bishop Donald Sproxton.

John was a good man, ever a gentle man and much loved by those who knew him.
