Daniel Magill
1924 – 4th April 2010
Dan who was born in County Antrim in Ireland in 1924 spent more than half his years of priesthood working in WA. He was a great storyteller and a very popular preacher who travelled the length and breadth of Australia and New Zealand preaching parish missions.
In his younger days, Dan had a struggle with alcohol which he was able to control by joining Alcoholics Anonymous. His contact with AA opened for him a huge, lifelong apostolate and because of Dan, eight AA Groups hold their weekly meetings at the North Perth Monastery.
Dan loved everything to do with horse racing and had both a horse and a race named after him! He also never lost his taste for magic, and in his latter years he loved to do tricks for young and old alike.
The large crowd at his funeral attested to the love and esteem of so many people for this gentle, humourous and loving priest.
