8 October 1945 – 4 June 2010

Kevin, much loved parish priest of Warwick, died peacefully after a short and courageous battle with oesophageal cancer. Born in Warwick, the son of William and Honora, he grew up on a Freestone farm with his three sisters, Margaret (Comerford), Lynette and Mary. Lynette and Mary still reside on the family farm.

Kevin’s education began at the Upper Freestone State School. He attended Nudgee College for two years, worked on the family farm for 12 months and then went to the Christian Brothers College in Warwick to complete his senior studies. Kevin then worked in the Warwick Commonwealth Bank for two years before entering Banyo Seminary in 1967. He was ordained by Bishop William Brennan in St Mary’s Church, Warwick on 8th August 1973.

Kevin spent his ministry in various parishes in the Toowoomba Diocese, and was a member of the Council of Priests, a Consultor to Bishop William Morris and Dean of the Southern Downs Deanery.

40 priests joined Bishop Morris and 1,000 people who had come from near and far to celebrate Kevin’s entry into eternal life and to acknowledge the life of this quiet, sincere man, whose brilliant memory for names endeared him to people of all ages. Bishop Morris spoke of Kevin as being “a man of the earth, a man of the soil, a man of creation – a man for all seasons.” He said that Fr Kevin had been the “face of Jesus to many people … [and] as we gather to remember him as a brother, pastor and friend, we show our love and gratitude for a life well lived.”
