I’d like to begin and end with a story. The first is a Lenten confession. In spite of being born in Melbourne, raised here, educated here, and housed here for three-quarters of my life so far, and in spite of living for several years almost within shotgun range of it, I only went to visit the Old Melbourne Gaol a couple of months ago.
