Sister Juanita Scari is a Josephite of no small recognition. She and another named Sister Margaret Gillespie have recently moved in to a house not far from my home. Juanita and I have been friends for years going back to the seventies when both she and Margaret loved to go fishing in my boat. They each now operate a ministry of spiritual direction.

Support
Like many other of my brothers in Holy Orders, I belong to a support group. Next year marks the twenty-fifth jubilee of our support and its activities. There are seven in our group and each has his own personal qualities which, blended together, makes for a very interesting bunch.

Nisi Deus Frustra
Our first national vocation directors’ conference was held in January 1969 at Sydney in St. John’s University College. In the chapel of that place was inscribed the above Latin motto taken from Psalm 126: “If the Lord does not watch over the city, in vain does the watchman keep vigil”.

Birdies
The feathered friends that fly around us capture my curiosity. Where do they go when they die? We might see the occasional bird road kill but how is it that we never see them dead in parks, woods, jungles, dells, back yards?
